As a programmer, I say what a great tool! I have put it to great use!

With that said, there has been way too much fear mongering.

For example, the claim that AI will wipe out humanity, which is hyperbole. Then there is the claim that AI will make us dumb, which is entirely dependent on how we use it, just like music or drugs.

There is also the claim that AI will control our minds, which is again our own choice.

Then there is the style of the AI output, which can simply be modified by changing the prompt or adding a config file.

I find AI to be something that gives me great hope!
